What are innovative arts?
Innovative arts are the natural evolution of visual and creative arts in the digital age. They are born where creativity, technology, and industry meet, and transform the artistic idea into a concrete project: a film, a VFX scene, a 3D character, a video game, an immersive experience, a digital fashion collection, or interactive content.
When we talk about innovative arts, we are talking about disciplines such as CGI, VFX, 2D and 3D animation, video games, digital fashion, digital cinema, sound design, virtual production, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and more generally XR and new media. In this world, art is not separated from technology: technology becomes an advanced creative tool, indispensable for building images, worlds and stories with professional standards.
Why are they called “innovative”?
Because they require a different approach from traditional arts: the artist today works with software, production pipelines, real-time tools, and project and collaboration methods typical of creative studios. It takes aesthetic sensitivity, certainly, but also:
- Technical skills and problem-solving abilities
- Design mentality (brief, concept, production, delivery)
- Teamwork (roles, workflows, reviews, deadlines)
Where innovative arts work today
Innovative arts are central to areas of high demand for professionals:
- Cinema and TV series (VFX, animation, virtual production)
- Video game and real-time content (environments, character, gameplay, cinematic)
- Digital fashion and design (virtual clothes, digital shows, 3D visualization)
- advertising and communication (3D content, motion design, commercials, branded content)
- Immersive and interactive experiences (VR/AR, installations, museums, events)
Studying innovative arts: what it really means
Studying innovative arts means preparing for ever-evolving concrete creative professions, where measurable results count: portfolios, projects, method and the ability to work in a productive context. At Side Academy (Verona) the goal is just that: to train creatives who know how to combine artistic vision and technical skills, working on projects that bring them as close as possible to the real world of thecreative industry.
